Pros: | Build quality, good averall IQ, cheap | Cons: | None, considering the price | | (When reading this review, please don't forget it's only my opinion about one single sample of a lens.)
I don't know who manufactured those M42 old Rikenon lenses series (I own the f/2.8 135mm too), but they're well made and look serious, a bit S-Tak inspired, IMO.
This one has a large and comfortable focusing ring, with a very long throw (quite a full turn from 0.40m to infinity). There are 8 aperture blades, with the curious "starshape" we can find on some lenses (Russian Industar 61 L/Z) when stopped down around mid-apertures.
I don't know if this has some importance on bokeh, but in some cases it may be funny seeing sawteeth shaped highlights in the background.
This moderate WA lens is an overall good performer, and despite it's not multicoated, flare can be easily controlled.
A lens I don't use very often, but I wouldn't want getting rid of.
Here's a modest picture caught at f/4, with a curiously blurred background (straight jpg file from K100D, no p.p., just downsized) : | |
