| | The Auto-Sears-MC (199.730610 in M42, 199.730310 in PK) is not a bad lens, but is not stellar. I got it from my father in-law with his camera and other lenses, that he bought in the mid 70s. I think this lens was made by Cosina.
Solid built, focusing is smooth and feels great, aperture clicks easily but it was stuck. Cleaning the oil was easy and it is now snappy.
Optics are OK, soft at 2.8, OK at 5.6-11
CA is very noticeable in the K3-iii

| | i bought this becuz a pal of mine gave me an old m42 screw mount "H" SLR. the shutter froze up sometimes. the camera died and i kept the lens. well, now i use it on "zony omega 5k". based on usage with that, recommend you pick one up. well saturated natural color with fine detail. close to takumar build quality. understand, that i bought this lens 30 years ago used. it's in great shape. it is bigger than the smc tak i have in k mount.

| | These lenses are available for peanuts on eBay -- I guess the Sears name is not prestige!
I found my example sharp at F5.6, with only a little bleariness in the very corners of the full 35mm frame. I didn't notice any significant problems with geometric distortion or vignetting. However, this lens has noticeably less contrast than other lenses of similar vintage. Shooting with a hood (or shade) mounted helps a lot. (The filter thread is 52mm.) Also, when I am not shooting with auto white balance, the lens renders a very slight yellow or "warm" tint.
The iris has six blades. The aperture ring turns easily with very positive clicks, although it also has a slightly sloppy feel as compared with more premium lenses. It goes from F2.8 to F16, and I like that it goes in one-stop clicks, no half or third stops. That keeps things simple.
Summary: Not a great lens, but a perfectly serviceable one that you can get for nearly nothing. Put a hood on it, and I'd be happy to take it out and shoot any time.
