Pros: it's wide! and sturdy!
Cons: a bit slow for a lot of indoor use
Sharpness: 9    Aberrations: 7    Bokeh: 8    Handling: 8    Value: 9    Camera Used: Pentax K10    Autofocus: 7    New Or Used: New

This lens produces excellent images throughout the ultrawide to wide range, and thus, for me, rates a 9. I'd rate it a 10 if it was faster, but then it would be larger.

If you need an ultrawide lens principally for outdoor landscape use, I'd look no farther. The images this lens produce are as good as anything comparable from manufacturers like Canon - I have compared it with this venerable company's own 10-20, and not found the Sigma lacking. It's sweet spot is 12mm - crisp, clean, minimal distortion, and at f8 it's tack sharp - no slouch down to f4, either.

My only problem with this lens (if it is a problem) is that I don't use the ultrawide range very much, and as a consequence, this is about the least used lens I own. That being said, I wouldn't part with it because when I need it, it's there and it delivers. If I did a lot of indoor stuff, I'd like a 2.8, but I can live with the slower aperture because indoors is tripod territory, anyway. As an outdoor landscaper, you couldn't do better.

Don't hesitate.

Pros: Value, build quality, value, auto focus, value, image quality, did I mention value for money?
Cons: It's big! some aberration and distortion at 10mm
Sharpness: 9    Aberrations: 8    Bokeh: 9    Handling: 10    Value: 10    Autofocus: 10    New Or Used: New

My first ultra-wide lens and I love it to bits. The version supplied by WEX in Norwich (UK) has HSM focusing which was a very pleasant surprise. Highly recommended!

Pros: Extremely sharp a couple stops down, cheap, solid build, suprisingly fast AF (on K-3), smooth focusing and zooming, undisturbing bokeh in close-up scenes, "sweet spot" at wide angle - 12mm is distortion-free.
Cons: Slow even at wide angle (f/4.0), hard to correct "moustache" abberations at 10mm
Sharpness: 10    Aberrations: 8    Bokeh: 8    Handling: 10    Value: 9    Autofocus: 10    New Or Used: New

Sigma 8-16 is now out of stock, so this is the sharpest wide angle still available. And the price is pretty low for this kind of lens.

This is my go to landscape lens. It is sharp and being a rectilinear lens, the distortion is better than acceptable. It also works for interior photography and group shots.

Pros: Sharp corner to corner, High quality built, Extremely WIDE
Cons: some distortion, slow compared to it's younger brother
Sharpness: 9    Aberrations: 9    Bokeh: 7    Handling: 10    Value: 9    Autofocus: 9    New Or Used: New

This was my first wide angle lens. I bought it to avoid having to deal with the kit (it was not bad, but not wide enough and the corners weren't great). I am happy to report that when stopped down the lens performs beautifully. Corner to corner sharpness. Good high quality plastic built too. Distortion is present at the wide end but it isnt always visible and it is correctable. The only real downside is that it does not work with infrared modified cameras. The lens causes hot spots. But then again, it was not designed for that purpose, so I cannot deduct any points for that...

Man this lens is a surprise
$450 brand new.
I do not think we can get anything less expensive on ultra-wide lens.
It is sharp...even from f4 and only some softness on the edge. stop down produce wonderful sharpness.
the build is so good. very smooth zoom.
however auto focus really sucks..anyway when I use this lens I use manual focus. it is not hard at all.
overall I find the review at photozone is very accurate.
tarmon 10-24 has cheap build quality compare to this one and this sigma should be sharper.

Pros: Focal length, sharpness, fun!
Cons: bit soft wide open at 10mm
Sharpness: 9    Aberrations: 9    Bokeh: 10    Handling: 9    Value: 10    Autofocus: 9    New Or Used: Used

I really love this lens! It's fun to use and can be used to good effect both as an UWA rectilinear and for interesting perspectives. I have no complaints about my copy of the lens: just a bit soft on the right side and tends to be softer when wide open and at the 10mm end. Stopping down to F8-11 produces outstanding results.
I use a DA 18-135 for my walkaround, and with that and this Sigma 10-20, I can get just about everything I want.

Pros: Ease of use, fun to use, good enough IQ, wide, wide, wide
Cons: Some CA, but easily fixed. Distortion, but this adds to the fun.
Sharpness: 9    Aberrations: 9    Bokeh: 9    Handling: 10    Value: 10    Autofocus: 10    New Or Used: New

Firstly I think the previous user who rated this lens a "1" should delete his review, it is inappropriate when every other review has been decisively positive.

This is a great and fun to use lens, with almost limitless possibilities.

It is sharp enough, wide enough and friendly enough to get wonderful shots without much effort at all.
If you can't get results with this lens, you should go back to the kit lens.

If you get a bad copy, get it replaced, and just get on with things.

Pros: good IQ
Cons: large

I am primarily a wide landscape shooter and occasionally have a need for FL's wider than the mighty DA15, so i bought this lens to fill that gap.

The lens is turning out to be a solid performer, impressing me with a sharp image everytime. I have no use for the larger apertures so do not care about bokeh nor low light performance, that is completely irrelevant in my application.

I still prefer the images from the DA15 and DA21 in that FL range, but this is a good 10-14-ish lens, IMO.

When shooting into the sun, flaring is to be expected with the Sigma. Also, the sunstars are sloppy looking, so I always consider switching lenses if the sun is going to be in the image.

Overall a useful lens and good value. My rating is 8.5, not quite a 9.

Pros: NONE
Cons: It's a Sigma?

A copy of my review submitted at B&H photo of this lens. Would give a big fat 0 if i could.Lens will not focus,in manual focus it must be set at the 3 foot mark to get an in focus photo of what should be ifinity. It is obvious to anyone who is not legally blind that it is focusing past the true infinity point but after sending it to sigma for repair with this info provided to them they adjust the Auto focus to specs and send it back with the same problem.Obviously did not even test it before returning.Sigma says it's Pentax fault for not putting focus adjustment in the software of my camera.Really?I'm out shipping cost to send it back and still without a lens 2 weeks later.I think i bought two Sigma's,the first one and the last one!!!You can't judge the cost of the lens until you find out how many times you'll have to eat the shipping sending it back!!
Accessories I Recommend::
A towel to cry on?
Two asprin for the headache
Some extra cash to return defective product

I picked this up barely used a few months ago and have been very pleased with it. I nearly always shoot long, but this lens has turned me on to wide. I've used it very effectively for HDR landscapes. I put it on a tripod, use a polarizing filter, and shoot 5 bracketed shots from -2 to +2 ev, typically at F8. I then run the output through Photomatix or similar software, aiming for a lot of color and highlight rather than grunge or something supernatural. These two shots are illustrations.

I've also found the lens to be an amazing tool in art museums where you really can't step back a few feet. I can stand directly in front of a small piece of art and frame it perfectly.

Finally it will take interior architectural shots that would be impossible with anything less wide.

In sum, a wonderful tool that is lots of fun to use. I seldom leave home without it.

Pros: Nice weight, size, ergonomics, AF speed, takes filters
Cons: Colors and contrast unattractive, images lack resolution/sharpness

I bought this lens about three weeks ago, and have taken it out on as many photo shoots. It performs well under certain lighting conditions, but not many. The colors appear dull to me, and the images lack sharpness. Maybe it's the unit I received, since there certainly seems to be a significant quality control issue with this lens (check out the reviews on Amazon), and you'll immediately see what I mean).

For some sample photos, please see http://www.flickr.com/photos/jdforgotson/sets/72157627219872175/with/6003555639/.

What you see here has a lot of post-processing. Even considering the hours of work I put into these shots, I'm really less than thrilled with the results. The pre-processing shots were just too horrible to put up. Of course, if anyone's interested in seeing them, please ask and I'll post some of them, too.

Pros: ! no circular vignette! / IQ / light / no fisheye effect
Cons: bit too slow

I think, it's the best ultrawide zoom available on market. cheap and better than a bit more expensive sigma 10-20 3,5. tests and people in sigma store share this point of view. small / light.

Pros: Image Quality, Ultra-wide, Size,
Cons: none

I always wanted this lens and when a great deal popped up in the marketplace I pounced on it and could not be happier. The field of view of this lens is extraordinary. The size and weight are absolutely perfect and the image quality is tack sharp. I use this lens more than any other lens in my bag. If you are looking for a perfect wide angle lens, this is the one.
