Pros: Sharpness (stopped down), low distortion, color.
Cons: None
Sharpness: 8    Aberrations: 9    Bokeh: 7    Handling: 10    Value: 9    Camera Used: FF, K-1    Autofocus: 7    New Or Used: Used

I used this lens on full frame, some years ago. I also have the similar EX version and the older UC 18-35mm. These lenses only make sense on full frame, or film.

This lens is good edge to edge, when stopped down, even on full frame. The Sigma 17-35 mm is good for every day landscape / architecture work. Color is good, accurate and quite saturated. The lens is not brilliant wide open and probably wasn't meant to be. The Pentax 15-30 mm is, obviously, sharper on the edge at wider apertures, but how often do you need ultra wide angle and shallow depth of field?

These 17-35 mm zoom models are also good with flare, similar to the DA 15 mm LTD or Sigma 10-20 mm.

Got mine cheapish and quite pleased with it overall,
does what it's supposed to and saved me some money
on the modern versions.

Pros: Great color rendition, fast focus, wide angle macro (1:4.5)
Cons: Soft, short range, HEFTY!
Sharpness: 7    Aberrations: 7    Bokeh: 8    Handling: 9    Value: 9

I bought this lens not expecting the size of it. Fortunately, it comes with it's own pouch, so I pretty much just attached that pouch to my bag.

Photo quality is good, but not shockingly great. A range of 17mm-35mm gives me enough for landscape shots, as well as on-the-go portrait shots. The lens is soft throughout the range, even when stopped down. It's not overwhelmingly soft - I can get sharpness in the center, but it isn't going to blow your minds with sharpness.

Color rendition is amazing, and leaps and bounds better than the kit lens. If you want a lens with 17mm that can get you those sunset landscape shots, or the blue sky and the green ground, then this lens will make you toss the kit lens away. Focusing is pretty quick, but that's partly because the focus range is 27cm to 5 feet, then goes straight to infinity. F2.8 on a wide angle makes it enormously useful in low-light situations, but expect softness.

The lens material is some sort of coated plastic - very nice to the touch. The lens does not feel cheap at all, even though it is plastic.

Pros: decent range, fast, and good sharpness
Cons: Kind of bulky

I have had this lens for a good while. While I use the kit lens for light travel, this is the one I carry when I am also carrying my Sigma 24-70/2.8 and 70-200/2.8 for serious work. AF speed is good not great but center sharpness is excellent all through the range.

Pros: Fast for a zoom, Full Frame, very light weight
Cons: Limted zoon length

Despite the limited focal length of the zoom, its a very fast, very lightweight ultra wide angle, very sharp where its needed, and ridiculously good value for money.

Full frame definitely adds another level of usefulness for the film junkies amongst us!

Pros: Fast, Sharp, works with full frame
Cons: limited range

I bought this lens brand new to use with me Pentax PZ-1p. I now use it as a replacement for the kit lens on my K20D as it is faster and sharper then the kit lens.

It has performed well in all lighting conditions on the K20D.

Pros: Inexpensive, covers full frame, fast, light
Cons: Large size, limited range, flare

I picked this lens up cheap because there are a number of Sigmas now with similar performance and a larger range. I primarily wanted a faster lens at the wide settings. Performance is very good, especially at the wide settings, and the extra stop of brightness in the finder is welcome. I've shot some resolution targets on the wall, and it does reasonably well, but, subjectively, it is quite not as snappy as photos with primes. Zooming is reasonably smooth, but there are some slightly catchy spots.

I have two complaints about this lens, though neither is a deal-killer. First there is the size. It is rather large for a lens of limited range. It is not heavy, but it makes the camera difficult to fit in a waist pack or small bag. It also makes the cutout hood a slightly unwieldy affair. Which brings me to the second issue: flare. This lens often produces washed out images when taking strongly backlit without the hood. The hood may or may not add much. It does not produce artifacts, so it can be compensated with adding contrast in post-processing. However, the coating seems far less effective than the Pentax SMC.

Pros: small MFD, fast accurate AF in low light
Cons: Physically large and weighty, zoom range is limiting

Have only just received this lens from another forum member. Build quality is very nice seeing as this is an EX designated lens from Sigma. Mine might be a slightly different version from the one pictured here as mine does not have a window for the distance scale ... it is just imprinted into the barrel.

Initial indoor testing in literally no lighting at my desk at work shows that AF at wide open (mainly 35mm f/4) is fast and locks on accurately ... which i was impressed with. Another thing I have found is that the Minimum Focussing Distance is meant to be stated at 27cm ... I have found it is MUCH less than that which is a nice surprise to ... allows me to get nice and close and not lose IQ.

Will update this further when i get more camera time with this lens ... it seems a little soft wide open at 17mm (f/2.8) ... but that may just be me ... more testing to be done.

As a kit lens replacement ... it seems to be better at the wide end ... although the zoom range isn't as versatile it is hard to compare between the two ... but seems like it will be a nice companion to my Sigma 28-70 DF f/2.8 lens (as they are nearly identical in size and shape.)
