| | You get what you pay for with this lens. I find its sharpness very good in the center and improving as the lens is stopped down. I have no issues with the auto focus hunting and found it to be quite accurate, but it needs good light to work effectively. The bokeh is a little harsh, but this is not a top shelf lens. The construction is quite good, and overall this lens is acceptable and I can recommend it for beginners as their first zoom lens.

Pros: | very light, very cheap, useful zoom range, even on APS-C, ok built quality | Cons: | noisy autofocus | | I didn't run thorough tests so I won't put down numerical values. The lens is not a dog - It has decent reviews online - not top of the line, but nothing too bad either. I only tested it on film and on relatively small prints. There was nothing wrong with them. The contrast was ok, the sharpness was ok and I couldn't see CA or PF.
The lens is very compact and very light, which could be advantageous for hiking (unless you put it on a 2-pound camera like I did). Overall it's not a bad option for a budget 24-70.
