I got this lens as a birthday present in high school. Its a beautiful lens. The materials and construction is top notch, even today some 30 years later. The barrel is tight, the aperture ring clicks off nicely, and the blades are still smooth. And the case it comes with.... so nice! It even has a nice macro lever on it.
Sooo... WTF??! Seriously. Why go through all that trouble and install subpar optics in it? Purple fringing is rampant on the edges and the images were always a bit on the soft side.
On the good side, bokeh is very pleasing on this lens and the slight softness actually works well when using it as a portrait lens.
The color is pleasing and adds a nice saturated "pop." However, I just couldn't get over the optical shortcomings of this lens.
Eventually after a year or two, the focusing barrel start to became more easy to move. I personally never had a problem with it, but I know that sort of thing drives some people crazy.
I later worked in a camera shop in college and most of the sigma lenses of that era were a touch on the soft side. It's just after I got my hands on a Pentax M SMC 75-150 I saw how soft this lens actually was.
Its funny that I still have this lens in my collection.
I would recommend that anyone stay away from this lens as there are much better 75-150 class lenses out there for not much money.

Very poor IQ due to extremely strong ca/flare on my Pentax K-x and K-7. Very hard to maintain every setting between 70-150mm because it slides far to easily from one setting to another.
