This lens is truly outstanding. It is bright (F2.8), which allows you to reduce ISO or use higher shutter speed. It is very sharp - as sharp as some of the best primes! It is good for both people and scenery. Two photos are attached here - one shot at 70mm and another at 200mm, at the Summer Palace in Beijing. First a 70mm shot:

At 200mm:

Pros: Fast focus, excellent picture and built quality, tripod collar.
Cons: None
Sharpness: 10    Aberrations: 9    Bokeh: 10    Handling: 10    Value: 10    Camera Used: K10D, K20D, K5 IIs    Autofocus: 10

The built quality and the finish are just superb, I have used it for 4 years now,
starting on my K10 and k20 and now on the K5 IIs, I am still amazed by this piece of glass.
The images it produces are tack sharp, rich in detail at all focal lengths and at all apertures. It balances well with all my Pentax cameras.
For the price I paid, I am a happy shooter.

Pros: Fantastically sharp. This is one of my go to lenses for events
Cons: The weight takes some getting used to, but it's worth it for the quality

I'll get the "con" out of the way first... This lens is big and heavy compared to 70-300 type lenses. That said, it's pretty much on par with the weight and handling of other 70-200mm f2.8 lenses from other manufacturers and other DSLR camera systems.

This lens is sharp enough to cut. It's easily in the same sharpness league as a lot of the good primes and with other 70-200mm f2.8 lenses from any manufacturer. It is one of the fastest focusing screwdrive lenses I have. This is a great lens!

Here are a few links to galleries with lots of examples of photos taken with this lens:

Edit: Please note that the $769 price was the price when I bought this lens brand new back in 2006....

Cons: nothing so far

This is the nicest lens I have ever owned .The only difference in the one I have and the one in the picture is mine has a red line between the EX and Sigma on the side of the lens instead of a gold line . If some one knows the reason for the red line difference please let me know. Here is a picture of some cliffs close to my house . f 6.7,1/90 sec,ISO 100,70mm zoom .
