Pros: sharp wide open, fast, compact, cheap
Cons: need a sun hood
Sharpness: 8    Aberrations: 8    Bokeh: 9    Handling: 9    Value: 10    Camera Used: Pentax K-70

I bought it because it was very cheap, fast ( f2.8) and cover most of portrait needs ( 50-105mm on APS-C cameras ). I thought: "Prolably this f2.8 will be soft as hell and unuseable"... well i've been wrong. It's totally useable at wide open! It's compact, preety light...could be a little bit more contrasty but - to be honest - for such price it's really nice deal! Especially it's "A" lense so you can use it Av mode.

The only issue that i met is it don't work good against light - you'll need some sun hood for sure.

Pros: light, build quality, sharpness, A aperture control
Cons: long near focus
Sharpness: 9    Aberrations: 8    Bokeh: 8    Handling: 7    Value: 7

My cheap copy looks like new, has no zoom creep and focussing is precise and easy.

But I would recommend a lens hood to keep the image quality.

I can't find any distortion, but that's no surprise for a moderate zoom. The viewfinder is very bright due to the fast glass and with the A contacts and a working focus indicator this lens works nicely even on a modern DSLR.

The crop factor issue turns it into a ca 55-110 mm lens, but that's nothing I would have a problem with.

This lens is so cheap and sturdy, if you need an A lens for low cost, you should consider this one!

Pros: Sharp, compact, solid build
Cons: Flare, Narrow focal range, Macro is only 1:6.7, so it's more like close focusing if that.

I picked this lens up at a local pawn shop for $15 because the aperture blades were stuck wide open. I took it home and stored it on the shelf for a few months. I finally got around to pulling the mounting plate and aligning the aperture ring, it took a whopping 15 minutes! So on to my thoughts...
This is a nice small zoom lens that is a joy to use, it's sharp enough at 2.8, but like most it starts to shine after f4.0-5.6 It's Macro mode is more or less "close focusing" but even then it's far from a great macro lens. I just find the focal range of 35-70mm just doesn't cover enough to make something I would carry regularly. But for the cost I had to at least try it out!. Here are a few shots I had taken during today's outing with it with no PP work done.
