Pros: | Sharp enough for me. Balanced all the way, "Easy" to focus. | Cons: | The focal length makes this a bit limited for my purposes. | Camera Used: Pentax K-3
| | I bought this lens with some other Adaptall lenses. It has one sharp, small hit in the front lens. But I have not noticed any influence in photos.
I like how easy this lens is to focus, compared with some other manual zoom and prime lenses I have. I have not used this too often though, because 135mm focal length is a bit difficult for my usual purposes. But today I gave it a chance. Left other lenses home. And here is some photos.
Photos uncropped and edit in Corel AfterShotPro and PSPX6.
All shot in ISO800 1/1000 f/2.8

Pros: | Faster than the CZJ 135/3.5 (it's f2.8) | Cons: | Not as good as the CZJ ... | Sharpness: 9
Aberrations: 9
Bokeh: 9

| | This lens is pretty good. As an Adaptall rather than an Adaptall-2, it has an M/A switch, so you don't need the green button, or you can conveniently use the Adaptall M42 mount. However, I find the metering with my Samsung GX-20 unreliable with this lens if it isn't wide open; I get more accurate exposure if I meter wide-open, calculate what it should be stopped down, switch to Manual and dial in the calculated shutter speed.
It gets sharper and the contrast improves as I stop down from 2.8 to 4. At f 4, it almost matches the CZJ 135/3.5; the detail is very similar, but the CZJ has slightly better contrast.
I find both this lens and the CZJ to be less good at f 5.6 than at f 4; I don't know if it is focus shift, camera shake, or what.
However, I find this lens to be inferior in every respect to the CZJ except for its faster maximum aperture. The CZJ focuses closer (1 m versus 1.5 m), takes a smaller filter (49 mm versus 55 mm), and is smaller and lighter.

Pros: | Tack-sharp wide open, smooth focusing, pleasing bokeh | Cons: | included lense hood is inadequate | | I ultimately paid too little for this lense. It was thrown in with the purchase of a P/K-M adaptall mount, and I'm incredibly lucky to have got this gem!
Focusing is comparable to the SMC Pentax-M 3,5/135 - except the tamron has a smoother feel to it, and of course is brighter by ⅔ stop.
As I used it with a manual K-mount adaptall thingy, I can't comment on any metering faults - I used it in M or X the entire time, and it felt right I should do so.
It's possibly the worst possible use of such a nice lense, but I have found that it works well for portraits if you have the time to spare in setting up.
My only grievance with the lens is that its internal hood is quite inadequate, so much in fact that i screwed an auxiliary rigid hood on.
I have no formal tests, unfortunately, but an example photograph taken with this lense is below: | |
