Pros: build quality, color rendition, clarity, bokeh
Cons: focus ring (see below)
Sharpness: 9    Aberrations: 8    Bokeh: 8    Handling: 8    Value: 9    Camera Used: K-3

I felt lucky enough when I bought this lens on eBay to find a NIB/NOS copy of it - as far as I could tell, the lens had never been mounted on a body; all the original paperwork, etc were included with the lens....

I had a spare Adaptall mount, for KA bodies, so mount the lens and away we go!

Firstly, this lens is nicely-built; as Tamron moved closer to autofocus lenses, they used more composites and less metal in their lens construction (the 72B is a good example), but the 01BB is primarily metal, with the addition of a plastic window over the distance scale... supposedly, the optics are identical to the prior version (01B) but there are some reviews that compare the two and state that there does seem to be finer optics in the later model of this 24mm lens...

the focus ring is my only complaint on this entire lens - it's small and slightly recessed; it does not protrude above the lens body at all; this makes it a bit tricky to use occasionally... the action itself is nicely damped and is smooth all the way through its travel...

throughout the month, I was consistently impressed with this lens' ability to resolve details, its color rendition, bokeh, and general IQ... this lens is dramatically different from its 28mm sibling (02B)

some of my favorite shots from this lens (so far):

I highly recommend this lens; if you are looking for a manual-focus, film-era 24mm lens, this should be on your short list to purchase....

Pros: sharp, affordable, good manipulation, can be used as PK/A with proper adapter
Cons: it's prone to flare without hood
Sharpness: 8    Aberrations: 8    Bokeh: 8    Handling: 8    Value: 10

I'm using this lens mainly for landscape photography and I like it so much that it became the only wide lens I use. Also I plan to buy adaptall2 to PK/A adapter so I will be able to use auto-metering. I'm curious how it will perform on full-frame body but it's nice combo with my current dslr K10D.

Also hyperfocal distance focusing technique can be successfully used.

... and some long exposure shot

Pros: Well built, relatively compact
Cons: heavy

I find this lens works better on my film bodies, but does well on my digital bodies. I have used it on a K20d and *ist D, but haven't tried it on the K-5. This is the only 24mm lens that I currently own.

Pros: Excellent manual focusing, usable 2.5 aperture
Cons: Transparent plexi on focus distances
Sharpness: 7    Aberrations: 7    Bokeh: 8    Handling: 9    Value: 10

Despite being supposedly 'unchanged' optically, mine was a lot sharper images than the previous version (01B) at full aperture and F4.0., less vignetting at f2.5 (full frame) and a lot less flare too. It is now 'good' at 2.5, very good at f4.0 and excellent at f 5.6.

The focusing is still a delight, and the lens is mainly made of metal.
Unfortunately, they put a plastic cover on the distances scale, and it fell out (ok, after ~20 years), I had to glue it back. I would have liked a bayonet to mount a hood.

An amazing quality / price ratio.
