Not a bad lens. Sharp enough but lots of flare, which was expected but can be useful at times.

Got this lens in a lot i bought in eBay, probably the best thing that was in the whole lot. I could tell how good of photos this lens takes the very first picture! i love it and i would recommend it defiantly considering the very low price!! | |

This lens has treated me more then kindly! I have several great shot of scenic overlooks and mountain shots with it! This lens makes other 28 lenses I have used look like garbage! I would recommend this lens if you can find it, just find a 2 times adaptall to fit the mount and you are ready to go. I have several other Tamron lenses because of this one and I am happy with all of them, save a lot of money then some of the other brands and even some of the "slower" ones are incredlibly sharp and not as slow as it seems.

The lens shown does not have the necessary adapter. The adapter will work in manual mode but i could not get it to work in any mode on my ZX-30 as that camera would not fire with this lens. I will comment more when I learn more about this lens and it's K adapter.

This is a nicely built lens. The focus is smooth and is a great example of a classic lens from the hay days of 35mm. The aperture is 1/2 stop wider than the SMC Pentax A 28. Focus range is nice, going down to less than 10", making it almost a macro (1:2.5 magnification ration)!
The Tamron Adaptall system was truly a great concept that no other manufacturer did well. It has allowed me to resurrect a 500MM Tamron with a new mount (PK). For the 28mm, a Pentax KA mount is strongly recommended. I really wish Tamron would make these mounts again (or someone would) as it adds to the usability of the lens substantially. The KA mount allows the lens to be used with any of the auto aperture cameras by including the activation pin found on fixed mount lenses. With this mount the Auto Aperture works perfectly and stop down metering is not required.
The down side of these mounts is they are starting to get scarce and adds an additional $30 to $50 or more to the price of the lens. This would make it less expensive to get a good used Pentax A mount lens of the same focal length. Switching mounts between lenses is not as convenient as a conventional lens change as you need an extra hand or two to do the swap (take lens off camera, hold camera body, hold lens one and two, swap mount between lens one and two, mount lens 2).
One important part of using this lens with PKA mount is to make certain the mount is correct with the position of the connections BEFORE mounting the lens to the camera. If you do not do this first, the lens might not mount correctly and may jam onto the camera body (scary thing to happen), and certainly won't work correctly. Also check the M-A switch: should be on A.
If you come across this lens at a good price and can also get the PK A adapter easily, I would go for this lens in a heartbeat. I have a second in an M42 mount to use with my macro bellows setup (M42 to PK A adapter from bellows to camera).
