Tamron adaptall lens tripod grip ring
supersize

Description:
This add on metal, hinged tripod ring with foot is most specifically designed to fit the straight barrel adaptall lenses like the SP 54B 300mm f5.6; SP 70-210mm 52A; SP 70-150mm f2.8 51A. It can also fit the following adaptall lenses: 300mm f5.6 CT300 (with some packing to make the foot clear the focus ring); 85-210mm; 80-250mm f3.8-4.5; 70-150mm CZ150 and 02A; 135mm 03B; 200mm 04B; 01F 2x TC; 018F extension tube for the 90mm macros.

Also fits the SP 70-210mm 19AH, SP 60-300mm 23A zooms in front of the aperture ring, at the cost of some restriction of the zoom movement. Again a bit of packing is required to make sure the foot clears the focus ring. And it can be used on other lenses too, for example vivitar/tokina 400mm f5.6's, with a barrel up to approx max 65mm, and space to accomodate its approx 15mm width.
Three threaded mounting holes in the foot - can be 2 x 1/4" UNC mounting holes + 1 x 3/8th" - the latter is the middle hole; or 3 x 1/4" holes.
Mount Type: Third-party (adapter required)

Pros: Gives secure tripod/monopod mounting for those lenses it fits.
Cons:
Camera Used: Various film SLRs    Handling: 10    Value: 8

Works rather well in providing a secure tripod/monopod mount for those Tamron lenses it actually fits.

Mine, bought new in 1987, is still fitted to a Tamron 52A 70-210 f3.5-f4.0 zoom, on which it has given lots of valuable service. In its time in my ownership it was at one time shared with a Tamron SP54B 300mm f5.6. on which it was equally satisfactory

One lens I owned for a while, with which it proved unsatisfactory, rather annoyingly, was the front heavy 51A 70-150 f2.8 SP Soft Focus zoom. While it fitted around the lens barrel, it only did so by partially obscuring the lens' depth of field scale.

Pros: good quality, versatile.
Cons: not the most rigid.
Handling: 8    Value: 9

These crop up every so often, if you want one you'll have to browse around and keep your eyes open. As mentioned in the description they are intended for lenses like the "beercan" 300mm f5.6 54B. They typically go for £10-15. The inside diameter is up to approx 65mm and thus can fit a range of lenses of up to that size. Most useful I find for lenses like the tokina/vivitar 400mm f5.6 that don't have a TM. For the adaptalls, the cheap 65-66mm ID ones from China are actually more rigid, though those will need a bit of packing or modding (see this article ) to fit most lenses like the 54B.
