| | I Bought this lens from local shop in mint condition. In fact i bought two lenses, Tokina rmc 80-200 f3.5-4.5 and Tokina 80-200 f4.5 both are in Nikon mount. In my opinion tokina 80-200 f4.5 would be the best among these lenses, because it support close focus. But i totally wrong. Tokina 80-200 f3.5-4.5 beat tokina 80-200 f4.5. Good enough in flare handling. Good in saturation. I recommended you to buy this lens if you get reasonable price. Tokina 80-200 test by Marlon Managi, on Flickr

| | It's a pretty good lens that I paid $25 to get, making it an outstanding deal.
It is not very heavy and it is fairly compact (collapsed it is about the size of 16-45mm DA). It uses inexpensive 55mm filters.
The push pull zoom seems like a silly idea, because of the zoom creep. However, I found it very easy to zoom in and out, and focus with one hand. This makes a world of a difference when shooting moving subjects and thus I am bumping handling to 9 (not 10, because of the zoom creep).
The image quality is great once it is stopped down to at least F5.6. I didn't have enough light to test it beyond F8, but it was good all the way through. Importantly, it is very sharp at 200mm.
Wide open, this lens has serious aberrations, especially purple fringing. If you point this lens into a light source, you are in for a show of a serious flare. This is probably the weakest aspect of that lens.
100% crops from center, and the edge, respectively. Both shot at 200mm, F5.6, and ISO1600 (so you will see some detail smearing -- look at the leaves, not the fur). | |

| | this lens is EXCELLENT. it is very, very sharp even wide-open. 8-bladed diaphragm makes for nice bokeh. the lens is solidly built, yet lighter in weight than i would expect which is nice. handles extremely well--- barrel action is precise, no zoom creep or stiffness. i LOVE this lens!!!! i can't believe these lenses are so inexpensive--- i realize todays AF lenses can be decent, but i do the majority of my shooting with vintage MF only lenses. there is a magical quality about them-- such the underdog, yet such great performance. i got mine off ebay for $17.00 (buy it now)--- and it is in MINT condition. superb color rendition, sharpness, build quality, and handling. Pros: | inexpensive, solid construction | Cons: | a bit slow | | I bought my copy of this lens about 20 years ago for use with my film cameras. I bought it because I was looking for the best bargain in a medium-price zoom lens. At the time, this lens was rated as a "Best Buy" by Consumer Reports, if I remember right, ranking higher than comparable Canon and Nikon lenses. I used this lens a lot with my film cameras, but it hasn't seen much use now that I've switched to digital. I also have one of those very compact Tokina 70-210 f4-5.6 lenses and for some reason I use that one a great deal more even though it's range and f-stop are very close to my 80-200. One thing I've always liked about Tokina lenses is that I think their color redition is very close to Pentax lenses. When used within it's limitations, this lens is capable of very good results.
