| | I'd tried the Sigma AF variant with so much more CA's and the Tamron AF variant with much less sharpness in the corners and some strong CA's at 200mm. //J'ai essayé les objectifs Tamon and Sigma AF modernes, malheureusement avec moindre piqué et plus haut pourcentage d`aberrations chromatiques.
So I've remained by my maual focus Tokina 28-200 with much more optical qualities, inspite of manual sharpening.//Ainsi je fovorise cet objectif quoiqu'il faut faire la mise au point par la main.

TIP: HIGH ISO 400-800 and f9-13 for best results

+++ extremely sharp between 50 and 135 mm with macro ring and f11 - netteté extrème entre 50 et 135 mm avec bague macro.
+++ absolutely no midframe - corner CAs between 50 and 135 mm (stopped down) - ACs guerre visibles entre 50 et 135 mm et dans le centre et dans les coins de l'image (diaphragme demi-fermé)
++ very sharp along the full zoom range (for corners stopped down a few) - très net quelque soit la focale
++ very neutral color rendition - très bonne neutralité des couleurs
+/++ high contrast - haut constraste
++ very few flare - le flou est minimal
my full recommendation for this big zoom range - big posters possible / agrandissement possibles
9,6 points !!

| | I've had one of these for quite a few years, using it on my Pentax P-50 film SLR.
It served as my main lens on that camera due to its versatility, and I've always been impressed with the sharp images it produces across the zoom range.
Wide open, it's reasonably fast at 200mm, but quite soft .At F8 it's sharp however an
ISO of 3200 often necessary even in bright sunlight to get a decent shutter speed.
At F8 200mm IQ is noticeably better than the kit 50-200 DAL at the same settings that comes with the K-x with sharper images and no purple fringing.
Like many Tokina lenses from the film era, this has a flange that protects the aperture lever which renders it impossible to fit on a DSLR. It is a simple matter to remove this with a small screwdriver and the lens will then fit fine.
At 200mm the 1:4 macro functionality is nice to have, although the fairly low speed limits it to bright daylight.
Compared to modern lenses this is quite heavy, but on the other hand such a wide zoom range means that even if this is the only lens you have available it will likely cover many situations.
The focus ring has a relatively limited angle of movement from close to infinity, which can make fine focusing a bit hit and miss.

Pros: | solid build quality, good focal range, doesn't creep. | Cons: | a little heavy but, manageable even hand heald | | I like this lens. it's my favorite Manual focus walk around lens and I've gotten some great photos with it. my only complaint is some CA in high contrast shots.

Pros: | sharp throughout range, good contrast | Cons: | heavy | | I have the vivitar version and found it to be a bit sharper than the kit lens at shorter focal lengths and than the vivitar series 1 version 3 at 200mm.
