For the price I paid it (49$ + shipping), it's quite a steal. While it's a bit soft when wide open at f/3.5, closed down to f/5.6 makes it sharper and perfectly usable for photo or video. Sure, at f/5.6 it's not as fast as other lenses, but for a fixed aperture lens, in that price range, delivering that quality, it's a bargain!
Even at f/3.5, if you don't mind soft images, it's usable. It gives that "retro" look!
As many Vivitar lenses, there's a bit of chromatic aberration on either end of the zoom, unfortunately. Purple fringe when 105mm, CA on edges at 35mm. Better at f/5.6 for sure.
Overall, for the price of that lens, considering it gives a good range to work with and that it has a constant aperture, I really like that lens. Not the best, but cheap in price and fairly good in quality!

K version under HOYA available, same optics and housing
+/++ good to very good sharpness with f8-11 for landscapes, street shootings etc. 
+ nice bokeh
+ stopped down good contrast
O/+ some visible CAs at wide open aperture and stopped down in "macro mode"
O/+ wide open some flare visible
+ neutral color rendition
-/O not really sharp with extension tube 36 mm and f 11-16 at the long zoom end of 105mm
