Pros: | Enables Use of Vivitar 70-200 on K3 mount; works well with 50mm | Cons: | grainy; colours washed out; poor detail | Camera Used: K3
| | This review is based mainly on the Vivitar 70-200 1:4.5 Macro Zoom. I wanted to try out this lens without altering the flange, and the only way to attach it to the K3 was to use the 3x-22. I also tried the 3X-22 with a Makinon 80-200 1:4.5 Macro Zoom, Pentax smc FA-J 1:3.5 28-80, a Pentax A 50mm 1:2, and a Pentax M 50mm 1:1.7. Then I got bored. It worked best with the M 50 1:1.7. The results were always the same: varying degrees of graininess, washed out colours, and poor detail. In the end, I saved one photo out of the 60+ taken. Perhaps it will improve with better lenses, but probably not by much.
Cheers,
Loyd

Pros: | Cheap, 3x | Cons: | Can not be used with DA lenses, no AF | | Have purchased it yesterday...for its price result is more or less OK...You need a goog light to use it cause it will make Your lens 3 stops slower, IMHO works well with fast prime...fa 50 1,4 is becoming 150 4,0 (225 mm on crop) allowing some macro results, can also be used with Macrorings. Tried one as well on fa 100-300 pz 4,5 - 5,6.....not so easy witout tripod, have to push up ISO and be very carefull when focusing (just manually).
Couple of shots here: https://cloud.mail.ru/public/ca0c4db0958a/vivitar%20mc%20teleconv.%203x-22
1. Birdie with vivitar 3x + fa 100-300 200mm x 3 = 600mm = 900 mm on crop! Handheld, iso 2000 , 1/160!!!
2. Ashtray with vivitar 3x = fa 50 = 150 mm iso 400.
Both fullsize jpegs from k5, slightly (Autolevels + some Sharpening) processed by FastStone

Pros: | Makes a good 50mm extension tube with the innards taken out | Cons: | tends to confirm 3x's bad rep | | Acquired this to take the innards out for (50mm) macro extension. Thought I should check it out first.
With my tamron 54B results were poor. IQ simply insufficient for me. Couldn't see a thing through my split prism (surprise! Need a lens a bit faster than f5.6 to start with a x3).
Better with 135/2.8 giving approx 400mm. But still not good enough. Most potential with close up work, couple of flower shots were beginning to look OK-ish.
3x TC's have a bad rep for good reasons!
UPDATE tried a few macro shots in conjunction with my tamron 90mm: better than expected! A TC can be poor with one lens, much better with another. TP shot:
90mm tamron on G1 = 540mm equiv f4 | |
